PINEVILLE, La. – Louisiana National Guard officer Steven S. Belford of Pineville, La., was promoted to the rank of captain by his unit, the 225th Engineer Battalion.

Belford received his commission after graduating from the University of Florida's Reserve Officer's Training Corps Program in 2004 with a degree in business. He has eight years total military service.

A humanitarian enthusiast, Belford joined the engineers due partly to his passion for helping those less fortunate through the numerous projects the Guard undertakes. Belford spent six months in Belize as part of Operation New Horizons 2007 working as the assistant operations officer and task force safety officer. There, he was able to participate in projects such as building schools and setting up dental clinics for local communities and children.

Belford, who works full time for the Guard as the Senior Staff Special Actions Officer for Construction and Facilities Management Office, appreciates the difference his office has on the state of Louisiana.

"I believe in CFMO and the projects we are doing throughout the state to enhance the Louisiana National Guard," said Belford. "I enjoy the opportunity of to have an impact on our local community."

Belford is the son of Harold and Emelia Belford of Orlando, Fla.
