220th Public Affairs Detachment

The 220th PAD recently moved into a new office that gives the unit better access to working facilities and more space to grow, said Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Symonds, the senior detachment noncommissioned officer. Burgos’ inspection gave him the opportunity to assess the 220th PAD’s ability to deploy in the future.
As the deputy commanding general of the 99th RSC, Burgos is tasked with keeping tabs on the readiness capabilities of units in his chain of command. Burgos believes in meeting soldiers in person to put a face to a name and assess the units from a ground level perspective.
The 220th PAD is currently recruiting new soldiers and building up strength in anticipation for a deployment at some point in the next few years.
On battle assembly weekends, soldiers of the 220th PAD spend their time conducting physical readiness training, taking online classes, and practicing photography, video and story writing. This training keeps the public affairs soldiers prepared to create stories and videos no matter where the next mission may take them.
One of the key points General Burgos stressed to improve unit readiness while visiting with the 220th PAD was for soldiers to have a healthy balance between their civilian lives and their military careers.
Army services to help families adjust to deployments like the Family Readiness Group are especially important for junior soldiers and families that are unaccustomed to the rigors of life while deployed, said Burgos.
“In order for us to be good soldiers we have to take care of the family members,” Burgos said.
