ZAGAN, Poland -- The commander of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command toured various locations in Poland that are slated to support troops conducting training missions for Operation Atlantic Resolve.
Maj. Gen. Duane A. Gamble’s visit coincided with the increase of U.S. Troops in the OAR area of operations as the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division deployed from Fort Carson, Colorado, to the European Theater.
Gamble visited Soldiers assigned to 515th Transportation Company, 8th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 16th Sustainment Brigade at Koszarowa, Poland, and received an assessment of how operations were going and details on what Soldiers thought were needed to assist them in their mission.
Master Sgt. Ralah Wilson, the senior truck master driver assigned to 515th Trans. Co. said the unit’s mission is to provide fuel assets to the 3rd Arm. Bde. Cmbt. Tm. elements.
He said the unit is covering two missions: one in Poland and one and Germany, which sometimes requires the Soldiers to travel virtually the length of Poland over a two or three day period.
Gamble’s interactions weren’t limited to the unit’s senior leaders. He talked with and listened to advice and opinions from junior noncommissioned officers and lower ranked Soldiers.
“I think that’s good that he asked me and my other battle buddies opinions about how much fuel we think we should bring in and if we should get another (fuel storage) bag,” said Spc. Jesus Aparicio, petroleum support specialist, 515th Trans. Co.
Aparicio was one-of-three Soldiers who were awarded a coin from Gamble’s command team for their demonstrated proficiency at handling missions, which were normally beyond their routine-daily duties.
