Members from the 560th RED HORSE Squadron, along with joint mission partners and special guests, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of a new readiness and training facility Jan. 6, 2017, at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.

More than 75 people were in attendance for the event, which showcased the 33,000 square-foot building containing classrooms, administrative offices, equipment storage areas, a vehicle maintenance shop, a wood shop, a metal shop and a welding room.

“With the can-do, never-fail mantra, we got the job done,” said Maj. Jason Pryor, 560th RED HORSE Squadron acting commander. “That is the RED HORSE way. Each shop will now have an area to call home and dedicated spaces to meet and train.”

The building project was part of an 8.149 million dollar contract led by Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast, which was challenged by failed construction contracts and a lengthy procurement process.

“It was a long, arduous process, but we got it done,” said Rhett Fowler, NAVFAC resident engineer of construction.

The ceremony was held outdoors underneath the overhang between the new buildings, which showcased the structure’s modern design and state-of-the-art architecture.

“The RED HORSE mission will be enhanced and the RED HORSE Airmen will stand a little taller each time we enter these new facilities,” said Pryor.

The 560th RED HORSE squadron provides commanders a dedicated, flexible airfield and base heavy construction and repair capability. The RED HORSE Squadron is self-sufficient for 30 days and indefinitely upon re-supply.
