    II Marine Expeditionary Force

FORT PICKETT, Va. –Marines with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, participated in a fire and maneuver exercise during a deployment for training at Fort Pickett, Va., Dec. 4th, 2016.

The Marines of Lima Company, whose nickname is “Savage,” tested out the new Knights Armament 5.56 Suppressor, which allows them efficiently verbally communicate.

“The purpose of this training is to test how effective squads could communicate with one another while implementing the new suppressor,” said Cpl. Nathaniel Lloyd Dunchie, a squad leader for Lima Co. “My Marines feel more confident, and the more we improve on our communication the more cohesive they will become.”

The training included identifying the enemy position, creating a plan of maneuver and engagement, and silently stalking the objective before engaging to quickly and efficiently to eliminate all targets.

“The training really tested the abilities of small-unit leadership, each and every Marine had to be on the same page with one another and clearly understand the objective and how to cohesively engage the target,” said Dunchie.

The company is the first in 3/8 to have complete suppressive capabilities, allowing them different opportunities in their training regimen. They are the precursor for the application of the new suppressor for the rest of the Battalion.

The new suppressor has allowed Lima to effectively train their Marines on the use of not only the weapon armament itself but also the ability to verbally communicate with each other while not having to shout orders during live engagements.
