TTF Bangor Holds Change of Command Ceremony

Commander, Submarine Group Nine   

Trident Training Facility (TTF), Bangor, conducted a change of command ceremony at Briggs Auditorium, Dec. 9.

Capt. John Fancher, from Hammond, Indiana, relieved Capt. Ted Schroeder, from Maple Grove, Minnesota, and assumed the duties and responsibilities of commanding officer for TTF during the ceremony.

“Three and a half years ago, I took command of the most diverse staff; teaching the largest number of crews, covering the widest range of training requirements, over the largest area, of any U.S. Submarine Learning Center," said Schroeder. “No one ensures more crews are ready for their deployments than TTF Bangor, averaging almost three crews per month. TTF accomplished all of this while cultivating a command climate that continuously strives for excellence.”

Schroeder assumed command of TTF on July 12, 2013. During his leadership, the 189 TTF instructors trained 365,728 students from five Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System vessels, Naval Ocean Processing Facility, Whidbey Island, three aircraft carriers (CVN), and 26 submarine crews consisting of ballistic-missile (SSBN), guided-missile (SSGN) and fast-attack (SSN) platforms. Under his guidance, the development of a new Strategic Weapons Interactive Trainer (SWIT) was possible.

"I see great things in the future of TTF and my thoughts will go with you,” said Schroeder. “I am confident that you will continue to perform with a dedication and excellence that fully justifies the great trust that our country places in you. And with that, I thank you for placing your trust in me over my command tour and ask you now to place your trust in Capt. Fancher as you move forward together in service to our country."

Schroeder’s next duty station will be Commander, Submarine Group 9, where he will serve as Chief of Staff.
Fancher comes to TTF from Naples, Italy, where he served as Deputy Chief of Staff, Task Force 69.
"I am humbled by the awesome responsibility the Navy has seen fit to trust me with," said Fancher. “I will do my best to continue the great work that TTF does every day. We will continue to address the future challenges that will come with the always accelerating pace of technology change, to give the primary customer the best training they can have.”

Trident Training Facility Bangor provides the training to officer and enlisted personnel required to build competence and proficiency in operating and maintaining SSBN, SSGN, SSN and CVN systems and equipment.
