Bragging rights were up for grabs as tank crews from 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment shot their Gunnery Table VI at Fort Stewart, Georgia Dec. 5.

Table VI evaluates crews on engaging moving and stationary targets using all vehicle weapon systems while in offensive or defensive postures.

Sgt. Devon Myers, a tank commander with Company C, 1st Bn., 64th Arm. Regt., said his crew was excited to shoot their Table VI and compete amongst the rest of the battalion.

“Going out and shooting bullets, big bullets for qualification,” said Myers. “This is our Super Bowl.”

Capt. Adam Grant, the commander for Co. C, 1st Bn., 64th Arm. Regt., said the Soldiers put in a lot of work since they returned from Germany in September to prepare for their gunnery, to include progressing through their gunnery tables and maintaining their equipment.

“We had a lot of maintenance that we were focusing on; had a lot of late nights, early mornings and weekends away from our families,” said Grant. “I am proud of my Soldiers out here. They keep working hard regardless of inclement weather or time away because they are dedicated to the mission.”

Qualification on Table VI is a prerequisite for crews to advance to collective live-fire training, which is the next step for the company.

“Following our crew-level qualifications we will be conducting platoon-level qualifications with four tanks attacking and defending simultaneously,” said Grant. “Then going into company combined arms live-fire operations we will take our three tank platoons in coordination with attack aviation, mortars and artillery to synchronize battlefield effects on the enemy to be the most deadly and decisive tank company that we can be.”

All the training and time in the field continues to prepare the company for their overall mission.

“Overall we are in preparation for contingency operations around the world, but in the slightly shorter term we are preparing for a [National Training Center] rotation, which is coming next spring,” said Grant.
