RALEIGH, N.C. -- The North Carolina Army National Guard hosted its 41st Aviation Safety Conference at Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh, N.C., December 3, 2016.
Lt. Col. Brent Orr presided over the conference which featured keynote speakers Lt. Gen. Donald M. Campbell, Jr., Department of the Army Highly Qualified Expert Senior Mentor, and Col. J. Ray Davis, Division Chief of the Army National Guard.
Campbell discussed the importance of keeping safety a top priority in aviation culture.
“You’ve got to work to change the culture. Don’t walk by a mistake,” said Campbell. “The more transparency you have in your unit when it comes to safety, the better your unit.”
As an annual occasion, the conference focuses on multiple topics within the always evolving theme of safety. Speakers discussed topics on accident reporting, aviation culture and aero-medical training, among others.
Several units and individuals were presented safety awards for having no accidents and for flight hours benchmarks from throughout the year
Davis said, “Not a day goes by that doesn’t make me proud to be a part of the North Carolina National Guard and a part of this team.”
