Nearly 250 Oklahoma Army National Guard members are deploying to Ukraine as part the Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine. While deployed, they will provide training support for Ukrainian Forces with the U.S. Security Cooperation agreements.
“Your loved ones are going to serve day-to-day helping train Ukrainian Soldiers, but they will be doing so with the assistance of Soldiers from Canada, United Kingdom, Lithuania and Poland,” said Col. David Jordan, the commander of the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team
Soldiers, family and friends gathered here at the First Baptist Church of Moore for a farewell ceremony to show these men and women they support them and will eagerly await their return.
“The strength of our nation is our Army, the strength of our Army is our Soldiers, and the strength of Soldiers is our families, and that’s what makes us Army strong,” said Maj. Gen. Robbie Asher, the adjutant general for Oklahoma. “On behalf of all these men and woman that are here today that wear the uniform, thank you for your love and support.
The 179th is the first of two six-month rotations to Ukraine. The 45th’s 279th Infantry Regiment is scheduled for the second rotation next year.
“The bottom line is they have an expanding Army that needs some assistance in setting up combat training centers,” Jordan said. “[The training centers] will capture and apply the lessons that they learned, and turn those lessons into improved readiness just like we do at our own training centers. I am absolutely certain that we will be able to provide that assistance.”
