FORT STEWART, Ga - Soldiers of Hotel Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division conducted a convoy live-fire exercise (LFX) at Fort Stewart, Georgia, Nov. 30.

The LFX consisted of Soldiers manning weapons mounted on vehicles, while maneuvering as a team. It challenged Soldiers to coordinate efforts from separate vehicles to engage enemy targets. Soldiers also trained how to react to improvised explosive devices.

“Over the last six months, we have been working hard to ensure we are a combat multiplier, not just to support the battalion logistically, but to be an enabler for the battalion,” said Capt. Vincencio Arriaga, commander of Hotel Co., the battalion’s forward support company (FSC).

This exercise included multiple lanes with moving targets and various target types. Variety and repetition helps Soldiers familiarize with their unit’s standard operating procedures.

“Each day we do the training, I get more and more comfortable with the weapon,” said Pvt. Timothy Cowan, a wheeled vehicle mechanic with Hotel Co. “So far it's teaching me how to shoot the weapon, mount the weapon, load the rounds in and what to do if it jams, as well as correcting intervals in a convoy.”

Arriaga said he is pleased with his unit's performance and confident in their ability to successfully conduct operations as the FSC to 3-7th IN.
“This is a really good training opportunity for myself and the Soldiers who have never done this before,” said Arriaga. “For us to be able to self-sustain and to be able to deliver all the supplies on time, that’s a big combat enabler.”
