During a change of command ceremony officiated by Col. Reed Drake, 144th Fighter Wing commander, Col. Daniel Kelly assumed command of the 144th Maintenance Group from Col. Mark Favetti.
The Commander of the California Air National Guard, Brig. Gen. Clay Garrison and the California Air National Guard State Command Chief, Chief Master Sgt. Steven Pyszka were also in attendance.
During the ceremony, Col. Drake, Col. Favetti and Col. Kelly all expressed their appreciation for the countless hours of hard work by the men and women of the 144th Maintenance Group.
“As the newest F-15 unit in the U.S. Air Force, our maintainers continue to set the standard and Col. Favetti has led the way and exemplified that standard,” said Col. Drake. “I believe we have the best maintenance officer in the combat Air Force with Col. Favetti, who has had a remarkable 30 year military career.”
After Col. Favetti thanked his family and the men and women of the maintenance group, he relinquished command of the group to Col. Kelly.
“Col. Favetti is an amazing patriot, the best maintenance officer in the U.S. Air Force, and we all owe him a major thanks for his service, hard work, and dedication,” said Col. Kelly upon taking command.
The Maintenance Group has achieved many accomplishments, successful inspections, and deployments over the past few years. Their success during a recent deployment in Europe as part of a Theater Security Package in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve showcased the talents of the 144th Airmen.
“It’s easy to be proud of the 144th Maintenance Group, they prove time and time again that we can provide combat air power,” said Col. Kelly. “During our recent deployment our maintenance professionals helped change the opinion of the active duty towards the Air National Guard, they know we get the job done and I am proud to be their new commander,” said Col. Kelly.
