FORT STEWART, Ga. – Representatives of 3rd Infantry Division attended the 14th annual Mayor’s Thanksgiving Program at First United Methodist Church of Hinesville, Ga., November 20, 2016.
Chaplain (Col.) Gregory Walker (left), Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield senior chaplain, and Col. James Dooghan (second from left), commander of 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd ID, spoke on behalf of the division and the relationship the community has with the military during the event.
This year’s theme was “Rising from the Storm” to reflect Liberty County’s ability to bond as a community and help one another rebuild after Hurricane Matthew this past October. The event focused on the strength the community displayed to persevere through hardships the storm left in its path.
During his remarks, Dooghan related the city’s response to the resilience instilled in Soldiers.
“Last month’s hurricane demonstrated how a cohesive community like ours effectively prepares for, supports each other during, and heals after damages caused by adversities like a storm,” Dooghan said.
“We grow as a community through adversity, and we succeed as a community through our strong bonds,” he continued. “Our servicemen and families are truly grateful to have been grafted into this community with people like each of you.”
Proceeds raised at the service benefited the United Way of the Coastal Empire-Liberty County.
