    403rd Wing

KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- Two ceremonies took place for one person here during the 403rd Wing May unit training assembly. Col. Edward Segura was promoted from the rank of lieutenant colonel to colonel, and after his promotion ceremony assumed command of the 403rd Mission Support Group here May 15.

Segura has served in several roles since his arrival to the 403rd Wing in 2008, most recently as the deputy commander of the 403rd Maintenance Group.

He initially came to the 403rd to take on the role of a maintenance officer in the 403rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. After that he became commander of the 403rd Services Squadron and then the 403rd AMXS, the same squadron where he originally started his 403rd career.

Segura was commissioned into the Air Force in March of 1994 and served at different bases throughout his career in several positions, such as a personnel section chief, squadron section commander, and a military personnel flight commander, among other base-level positions.

Col. Frank Amodeo, 403rd Wing commander, presided over both ceremonies for new colonel. He praised Segura’s past accomplishments and gave him the following charge for his role as 403rd MSG commander.

“We need to have a vision for how this organization rebuilds, maintains and continues to be a premier wing – and we can do that. The Airmen that I saw out there yesterday (for Wingman Day) – the Airmen that I see doing the job of the mission support group – they’re great Airmen, and they deserve a great leader, and I’m going to give them that person in you,” said Amodeo to Segura.

Segura spoke to one of the main things he learned over his career that he has always strived to remember in his various command roles.

“I know it’s ‘the people’ who take care of the mission, and I see my role as trying my best to take care of the people – and then we do the mission collectively,” said Segura.

The new MSG commander concluded by saying he was very excited about the challenges that lie ahead of him and the people in the mission support group.
