    Patrol Squadron (VP) 10

BRUNEI - (Nov 18, 2017) Patrol Squadron TEN (VP-10) "Red Lancers" Commanding Officer and Combat Air Crew (CAC) SIX took part in Cooperation Afloat and Readiness Training (CARAT) Brunei 2016, a bilateral military exercise between the United States Navy and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces from 14 to 18 Nov.

CARAT Brunei is an exercise that helps build relationships between the United States and Brunei through strengthening maritime readiness in the region, while also sharing the best practices in search and rescue, aviation maintenance, maritime interdiction, military medicine, and many other professional military operations.

This was the second year that the P-8A “Poseidon” participated in CARAT Brunei. From static displays to a Search and Rescue demonstration flight, the P-8 aircraft was an active participant throughout the exercise. CAC -6 carried members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces on flights to show off the Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) capabilities of the Poseidon aircraft and how they enhance the proficiencies of all units that operate with the Navy’s newest Maritime Patrol aircraft. The crew also conducted a static display for members of the Brunei media to display the operational advantages of the P-8A Poseidon.

The highlight for VP-10 was the distinguished visitor (DV) flight in which the crew embarked 13 guests for a demonstration of the capabilities that the aircraft brings to the maritime domain. Joining them for the flight was U.S. Ambassador to Brunei, the honorable Mr. Craig Allen, and Major General Phein Tawi, Commander Royal Brunei Armed Forces, among other U.S. and Brunei guests.

The Aircraft Commander of CAC-6, Lt. Al Ravelo, said, "Patrol Squadron 10 was ecstatic about the ability to work with the Royal Brunei military forces and looks forward to developing future relations through other cooperative exercises such as CARAT."

The CARAT exercises have been ongoing between the United States and our Pacific Nation Partners since 1995, with Brunei being an original participant, making this year the 22nd CARAT Brunei. The persistent partnership between the United States Navy and Marine Corps with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces is critical in helping both nations maintain government relations, while keeping the interoperability of the two forces at a high readiness level.

VP-10 participated in CARAT alongside U.S. forces from Commander Task Force (CTF) 73, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 7, USNS Millinocket (T-EPF-3), Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 1, and a platoon of Marines.

“VP-10 was happy to have the opportunity to participate in such an important and long standing international military exercise with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, and we look forward to future opportunities,” said Cmdr. Al Miller, VP-10 commanding officer, commenting on the exercise.
