JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. --Members of the 315th Airlift Wing received recruiters from the military training instructor corps from Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas for an informational session June 5, 2016 at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.
The MTIs are seeking qualified candidates who are willing to serve by molding tomorrow’s leaders, positively affecting a life-long change in trainees and instilling proper military bearing, behavior and image into future Airmen.
"Serving a stint as a MTI, albeit a career enhancer, will no doubt be challenging, but your reward will be transforming ordinary civilians into extraordinary Airmen and knowing you’ve made an indelible mark on their lives both personally and professionally for the rest of their lives," said Chief Master Sgt. Mark Barber, 315 AW command chief.
There are three types of positions available to candidates who are promotable to technical sergeant and above, which include Active Guard or Reserve (AGR technical sergeant to senior master sergeant), Traditional Reservist (technical sergeant to senior master sergeant) and Air Reserve Technician (ART GS-09, technical sergeant to chief master sergeant).
“We’re on a nationwide search to find people who can serve as MTIs at basic military training,” said Master Sgt. Jose Rodriguez, 433rd training squadron MTI instructor supervisor at JB San Antonio-Lackland.
More than 40 Airmen from the 315 AW attended the briefings to inquire and apply to become eligible for selection as an MTI. They were able to freely ask questions and obtain specifics on what the assignment would entail.
Some of the benefits of being an MTI are mentorship, professional development, camaraderie, job satisfaction, special duty pay, career progression, flexible schedules and increased time management, said Tech. Sgt. Robert Hemingway, MTI with the 433 TRS.
