KABUL, Afghanistan— Brig. Gen. David Hicks, Train, Advise, Assist Command-Air (TAAC-Air) and 438th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, visited the 738th Air Expeditionary Advisory Group, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, Nov. 6-7, 2016.

Hicks’ first stop was to meet with 738th AEAG members where he and Chief Master Sgt. Daniel North, 438th AEW and TAAC-Air command chief, briefed and took questions.

“I’m proud of the work you are doing here,” said Hicks to the group. “Your efforts are paying dividends. It was a busy summer, and because of your dedication, the Afghan Air Force is taking the fight to the enemy.”

Col. Darin Driggers, 738th AEAG commander, took Hicks on a tour of current and potential future facilities of the 738th AEAG. Following the tour, Hicks had an office call with the Train, Advise, Assist Command-South commander.

Hicks then went to meet Afghan Air Force Maj. Gen. Raziq Sherzai, Kandahar Air Wing commander. The generals discussed a variety of issues to include training, aircraft fuel and the positive impacts of the 738th AEAG.

“This is a beautiful facility, and you’ve done a nice job of setting it up,” said Hicks in regards to KAW. “You take great pride in your work, and it shows.”

Sherzai gave credit to the hard work of the 738th AEAG.

“The advisors are working hard,” said Sherzai through an interpreter. “Col. Driggers is always working on training. The things we are accomplishing today are because of the hard work of advisors.”

The 438th AEW visitors went back to Camp Ransom where they played cornhole and socialized around a camp fire late into the evening.

“I love showing off the 738th AEAG and our hard-working team of advisors to senior leadership,” said Driggers. “Brig. Gen. Hicks sees the positive impact we’re having and the teamwork we have created, but having him here in person to meet with the Airmen face to face to show his appreciation is motivating. We’re looking forward to the next visit and the future of the Afghan Air Force.”

Following a group breakfast Nov. 7, Hicks and North flew back to Kabul in a C-208 with Hicks’ promise of another visit during the upcoming holiday season.
