During his nearly 23 years of active duty service, Hoffman served at every level in the Air Force, including two tours serving on the Air Staff at the Pentagon. In his first stint at the Pentagon, Hoffman was responsible for the Air Force’s bonus programs, which helped retained service members with needed skills. During his second tour, he served on a committee that determined personnel policy during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He retired from active duty in 1991. Hoffman continues to service the Air Force as the deputy director at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph’s Retiree Activities Office and helps provide military honors for the Memorial Services Detachment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
