    Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort

Marines of Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron held a costume formation run aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort October 31.
The Marines and the sailors of H&HS ran in a mass formation calling cadence as they ran past the different squadrons aboard MCAS Beaufort. The non-commissioned officer of the squadron organized the run as a way to promote camaraderie and unit cohesion within the squadron.
“It was great to see the originality and the costume ideas the Marines had for the run,” said Maj. Chance D. Trombetti, the Executive Officer of H&HS. “This is only my second year doing this event, but the Marines and sailors really put good effort into it.”
Although wearing costumes was not mandatory, many of the Marines and sailors chose to dress up. The leaders of H&HS even dressed up and showed support of the event and the Halloween spirit.
“I was a little hesitant to come to the run in costume,” said Cpl. Tyler Dexheimer, a Marine with Crash Fire and Rescue. “I was in a crazy inmate costume with a mask and crazy wig to go with the uniform.”
Some of the most attention getting costumes was the character impersonations. Marines dressed up as Forrest Gump, Pikachu and Raphael from the Ninja Turtles. Because of the busyness of the squadron a lot of shops within it don’t get many opportunities to come together as a squadron, and this event served as good opportunity to bring everyone together.
“It was good to see different sections from the squadron showing up,” Trombetti said. ”This was a good opportunity for everyone to get some good physical training done and to have a good time with all the costumes.”
After the run was completed, the squadron held a best costume contest where participants were judged on effort and creativity. From the junior troops to the top leadership, everyone got involved, which made the event pleasant.
“I enjoyed the run, and I felt like it brought the squadron closer,” said Dexheimer. “I think we had a great turnout for the run and it looked like all the Marines and sailors enjoyed it.”
Camaraderie is an important factor in the Marine Corps. It helps promote troop welfare and builds trust within a unit. As the holiday season continues, H&HS will continue to host events like the costume run for the Marines and sailors.
