GULFPORT, Mississippi (November 1, 2016) Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1 completed the Naval Expeditionary Combat Command Integrated Exercise (NIEX), October 24-28 on board Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, Mississippi.
NIEX is an exercise in the commands advanced phase of readiness training in preparation for upcoming deployments, and it focuses on the command and control of the construction battalion as well as supporting units in a challenging, operational environment.
The purpose is to exercise the battalions command and control as well as staff planning within the context of an adaptive force package. NMCB 1 battalion demonstrated this ability during scenarios that were injected and orders that were issued ultimately testing our planning ability under pressure.
NMCB 1 established a maritime operations center in an expeditionary environment with operation planning teams and working groups. Command and control along with the planning for each scenario emphasized the importance of understanding and being able to provide combat support to major combat operations.
NMCB 1 is a Seabee battalion that specializes in contingency construction, disaster response, and humanitarian assistance. The naval construction force is a vital component of the U.S. maritime strategy. It offers deployable battalions capable of providing contingency construction, disaster preparation and recovery support, humanitarian assistance, and combat operations support.
