BAGHDAD – The village of Khuoul, northwest of Baghdad, received the gift of free medical care from the Soldiers of 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, "Gimlets," 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, "Warrior," 25th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad, July 5.
The Monfaluti School was temporarily converted by the Gimlet medics and local doctor Dr. Dunia Zakoori Jabour into a medical clinic.
Jabour, a fellow doctor from the Ministry of Health and the Gimlet medics worked together and treated more than 130 patients.
The patients came with a variety of illnesses ranging from the common cold and sore throats to tumors and diabetic ulcers.
"The most common problems here is the lack of iron in diet of the village and lack of good personal hygiene," said Jabour.
Every age was present and no one was turned away.
For those unable to walk the Gimlet medics built and gave away free wheelchairs and crutches.
Free medication, donated by the government of Iraq was also given to patients. The support from the GoI shows they care for the people in the country.
"This is how things should be," said the doctor from the MoH. "I am caring for my own people with supplies provided by my government."
