COLLEGE STATION, Texas–On a suffocating, humid Sunday morning, Soldiers of the 211th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, of Bryan, Texas, gathered at Kyle Field on the Texas A&M campus here to support their fellow soldiers and the community that is home to their unit. The event was a 10-kilometer run through the sprawling university campus.
Among the hundreds of civilian participants was U.S. Army Reserve Soldier, Spec. Logan N. Rath, who is a Texas native and has made College Station his home. Rath, who is a public affairs broadcaster, loves to mentally and physically challenge himself, which was why he decided to sign up for the 10k run.
“It was a chance to prove to myself that six miles is something I could do," said Spec. Logan N. Rath. “As an individual, I'm always trying to improve my running, but as a Soldier, anything that improves my two-mile run time is something I strive for. Ultimately, I hope to get my 6 mile time down so I can go on to try a half marathon.”
While Rath might have been the only official participant from the 211th MPAD, the unit was not about to let him face this challenge alone. Capt. Michael J. Havro, a public affairs officer and also from the 211th MPAD, donned his physical readiness training uniform and set out to keep pace with Rath.
“I not only wanted to show my support to the community where our unit is stationed, but also our Soldier who was running in the race,” said Capt. Michael J. Havro.
Events like these remind everyone that members of the Army Reserve are present and active members of their vibrant community.
