    LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (October 8, 2016) –

Different things fuel individual drive and motivation. Whether it’s family, friends, career, or the pursuit of happiness, in order to be successful leaders for our own lives, finding our purpose to direct that energy is the first step.

Life is a journey and with billions of people in different stages of life, not everyone has their purpose figured out yet. Former Army Special Forces Soldier Nate Boyer, enlisted after the terrorist attacks on 9/11 after struggling with finding his purpose in life. He wasn’t sure what to do in the Army, but had a “I’m going to be the best that I can be” mindset going into basic training. With that attitude, Boyer went on to school at the University of Texas, and currently plays in the NFL.

On October 8, 2016, Boyer and some veteran friends participated in the Southern California Tough Mudder in Lake Elsinore, California, where they tackled 22 basic training-like obstacles over a 10-mile course.

The Army Reserve was one of the sponsors of the event to show support to the community, the Wounded Warrior Project, and many veterans that participate.

“I think this is a great event for veterans coming off active because, it gives some a sense of purpose through training for the event,” said Boyer. Even when he left the military, Boyer went through a time of trying to re-find his purpose before he decided to do football.

“Often times fear can hinder us from moving forward, which is why I think Tough Mudder is great at developing that mental grit,” said Rob O’Malley, host for the SoCal Tough Mudder.

“I’m afraid of heights and getting shocked, but we all went ahead and pushed through our personal fears,” said Boyer.

Tough Mudder is not a timed event, but a series of obstacles that require teamwork to accomplish.

“We all set a goal and agreed to come out here today, and the course challenged us to be the best that we could be, and that was our purpose for coming out,” said Boyer.

Whatever path you choose, whatever your purpose is, Boyer encourages others to always strive to be the best they can be.
