RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Army National Guard Soldier Jeffery B. Carmouche has been promoted to the rank of first sergeant with the 1020th Engineer Company in Marksville, La.
To Carmouche, the opportunity to serve as first sergeant of the Marksville unit is not just a chance for professional development.
"I feel like I have just gained a huge family with the 1020th," Carmouche said. "It is a great honor to be named their first sergeant and I promise to all my Soldiers, and their families, that I will do my best to make the community proud of this unit."
Carmouche has served as a platoon sergeant with the company and as an expert marksman, he was named one of only 20 Soldiers to earn a position with the Governor's Twenty marksmanship team for 2007.
Carmouche joined the National Guard in 2001 after serving nine years in active duty status with the Air Force. During his service in the Guard, he has completed overseas training missions to Germany and Honduras in support of engineer-specific tasks.
Carmouche has received various state and federal awards during his military career. These awards include the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Louisiana Cross of Merit and the Louisiana Emergency Service Ribbon.
Carmouche is the son of J.D. and Dina Carmouche of Marksville. He is married to Ileane and is the father of Annette, 22; and Jake, 16. Carmouche and his family currently reside in Marksville.
