IWTC Corry Station Holds Graduation Ceremony

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Corry Station marked the end of a training period for 27 of the 2,200 students trained there every day with a ceremony held at the Naval Air Station Pensacola Corry Station chapel, Sept. 22.
The graduates consisted of Information Professional (IP) Basic Course students and two classes of the Joint Cyber Analysis Course (JCAC).
Honor graduates included Lt. Kyle Decker, from the IP Basic Course, as well as Cryptologic Technician (Networks) Seaman Apprentice Megann Herdegen and Spc. Charles Thompson from JCAC.
The IP Basic Course provides a fundamental knowledge of the IP community and the IP's roles within today’s Navy and information warfare community. The course enables graduates to develop, communicate and promote innovative solutions while they oversee the seamless operation of the global naval network environment. It also introduces them to the values that guide the IP community.
“This course enabled me to acquire the tools necessary to become an information professional,” said Decker, a native of Aztec, New Mexico. “I can now do my part in weaving the blanket of freedom, one stitch at a time.” Decker has orders to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic in Norfolk.
JCAC trains enlisted personnel from all services in the skills and knowledge required to perform technical network analysis in cyberspace operations.
“I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to take part in this course,” said Thompson, a native of Panama City, Florida, who has orders to the Army Cyber Protection Brigade in Fort Gordon, Georgia. “I feel like everything I’ve learned here will help me no matter what task I am assigned to.”
Herdegen, a native of Stafford, Virginia, has orders to a national mission team at Fort Meade, Maryland, as part of the Department of Defense’s Cyber Mission Force, helping to defend the United States and its interests against cyberattacks of significant consequence. She said that the course, though challenging, builds a strong foundation for enlisted personnel to build upon after graduation.
Capt. Bill Lintz, Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) commanding officer and guest speaker for the ceremony, spoke of the importance of the graduates’ roles in the information warfare mission and what it takes to prepare them.
“You have had experts: expert instructors, expert administrators, expert curriculum developers, who have spent time and energy over the course of weeks and months invested in you, invested in ensuring that you have a learning experience that can allow you to take those experiences and that knowledge forward and into what is now a cyber battlefield,” said Lintz. “It is the investment that is being made to make certain that there is an expertise and a level of knowledge that you can take forward to then fight and win in warfare. You have earned the opportunity to graduate and now go forward in support of the nation's operations."
Operations for these graduates could include working on networks; leading personnel who are managing the Navy's networks; managing the nation’s or the Navy's Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) systems; and conducting cyber operations.
Information Warfare Training Command Corry Station, as part of CIWT, provides a continuum of training to Navy and joint service personnel that prepares them to conduct information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
