Navy Misawa’s soccer team won the 2016 Misawa Air Base Intramural Soccer League Championship September 20.
The team defeated the U.S. Air Force 35th Fighter Wing’s Logistics Readiness Squadron 3-1 in the championship game of the 6 team tournament.
Navy Misawa’s team consisted of Sailors from Naval Air Facility Misawa, as well as two players from the deployed squadrons.
Out of the six teams in the intramural league, this was the only Navy team to compete.
“It was a slow start to the season, but with our reinforcements mid season, our hard work, and great teamwork, we became the strongest team in the tournament,” said Information Systems Technician 3rd Class Nick Garcia. “I look forward to our three-peat next season.”
Next up in the Misawa Airbase intramural schedule is flag football season. Misawa Airbase has intramural sporting leagues running year round.
