Bartlett, Texas – Families, Chamber of Commerce, Bartlett Police, Fire Department, Local Officials, friends, and the 48th Chemical Brigade Soldiers proudly marched in the Old Town Festival 2016 Parade at Bartlett, Texas on Sept. 17.

The Spartan Soldiers from the 48th Chemical Brigade were invited by Barbara Sandobal, Bartlett City mayor (pro tem) and also President of the Bartlett Chamber of the Commerce, to represent for two consecutive years as the Honor Guard in the Old Town Festival.

Ms. Tina Steglich, a volunteer for the Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce, expressed her gratitude for those who made the Old festival a memorable experience to include Sandobal and the support of City Council members such as Ramona Hall, Monique Mathis and Dean Roome. She also mentioned the 37 vendors, the Lone Star Garden Tractor Pulling Association and the Mark Richey Band, which played at street dance.

Bartlett’s quaint city festival has brought back friends and families who were raised and grew up in this town like Ms. Jane Daugherty.

“I grew up here, and taught fifteen years in Bartlett High school,” she said.

Daugherty flew back from her retirement state to see her daughter, Ms. Julia Buss. Buss is a registered nurse and resides in Bartlett City. Both Ms. Buss and Ms. Daugherty explained that today’s festival has been a tradition since the early to mid-twentieth century as they both were volunteers who helped organized today’s festival.

Staff Sgt. Justin Mathews, the non-commissioned officer in charge (NCOIC) of the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 48th Chemical Brigade’s Honor Guard expressed; “It’s good to come out to support the community. We had Fun!”

After the parade, all participants were invited to the Bartlett Activities Center (BAC) for “The Old School” luncheon which was provided by the Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Kathy Jones, a volunteer for the BAC, explained that the luncheon was established to raise funds for “The Old School”. The BAC was Bartlett’s first school established in 1909 and now serves as a community center.

Today’s Old Festival upheld the Bartlett’s motto “The Best Little Town in Texas”.
