The Camp Lejeune Safety Department will host Dynamic Driving courses for active duty personnel on Sept. 22 and 23 at Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue.

Instructors from Driving Dynamics Inc. will provide the instruction to students on how to recognize high risk driving and develop strategies to mitigate threats.

“This training is designed to take at-risk personnel who have had multiple tickets, traffic accidents or near misses; these are people that are at risk for a 4-wheel vehicle collision,” said Miles Bowman, Marine Corps Installation East-Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune traffic safety and motorcycle program manager. “We team them up with a group of experts that will show them the consequences of making bad choices.”

During the course, students will learn about discipline habits, multitasking, distracted driving, braking techniques, steering and evasive maneuvers.

“People make changes to behavior once they realize the consequences to their actions,” said Bowman. “Until you actually experience the consequences, it’s not in your head. By exposing them to what these consequences are in a controlled environment where they’re safe, it keeps them from having to learn these consequences in the real world where bad things can happen.”

Students will learn in both classroom and on-track environments to develop skills that could potentially save their life while driving on the road.

“Prospective students should come to the course with a good attitude,” said Bowman. “It’s a great experience and students can walk away having learned something.”

    Classes on Sept. 22 go from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Classes held on Sept. 23 go from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Students can sign up through their unit safety offices. For questions on the course, call the Safety Department at 451-9497.
