LONDON, England -- Three CH-47F Chinook helicopters from the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade transported Secretary of Defense Ash Carter from the airfield at RAF Northolt to the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford, Sept. 7.

According to a DoD press advisory announcement, Carter traveled to the UK and Norway to meet with allies and discuss UN peacekeeping operations. He led the U.S. delegation to the UK-hosted UN Peacekeeping Defense Ministerial, where he highlighted U.S. contributions to UN peacekeeping operations and discussed areas of potential improvement.

The defense ministerial provided an update on pledges made during the Leaders' Summit on peacekeeping that President Obama hosted in 2015, at which more than 40 nations discussed efforts to strengthen and modernize UN peacekeeping operations.

Secretary Carter also announced additional US contributions to UN peacekeeping.

Before leaving London, Carter held bilateral meetings with several of his defense counterparts, including Secretary Fallon, Turkish Minister of National Defense Fikri Isik and Israeli Minister of Defense Avigdor Lieberman.

Hotel Company, 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment, 12th CAB "Big Windy" is the premier heavy lift helicopter company in Europe. The CH-47 Chinook Helicopter is capable of lifting more than 25,000 pounds and carrying 33 passengers.
