Marines are held to the core values of honor, courage and commitment every day while on and off-duty. Throughout, their careers, Marines serve the United States of America and the local areas surrounding their duty station and hometowns.

Cpl. Jared Hall, his wife, Erin, and their son Riley are one of the many outstanding families to receive the Military Family of the Quarter Award during a reception at the New Bern Country Club in New Bern, N.C., Sept. 8.

“I volunteer because in the end, I get to see the positive impact I have on peoples’ lives,” said Hall, an aviation communications technician with Marine Air Support Squadron 1.

The Hall family has volunteered for a wide variety of organizations and events, to include the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, Girl Scouts of America, Single Marine Program, local park and beach clean-ups and community races.

“I started volunteering when I left [Marine Combat Training] and came to my [military occupational specialty school],” said Hall. “There, I volunteered for the Girl Scouts, Toys for Tots, and a lot of different races in the area. As soon as I was stationed at Cherry Point, we continued volunteering with my wife helping out the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and myself cleaning up the local forests.”

The family received awards, gifts, gift certificates and publicity from the Havelock Military Affairs Committee and the New Bern Military Alliance Committee in appreciation for their service.

Sgt. Kenneth Harper, an aviation communication systems technician with MASS-1, explained that Hall’s family does a great job with balancing their careers and volunteer hours.

“At no point in time has corporal Hall hesitated to give me his time,” said Harper. “No matter what it is, he always sets aside what he’s doing to say ‘what can I do for you sergeant?’, and that means a lot to me and the other Marines in our shop.”

Hall said his family is thankful to receive recognition from the representatives of the community they strive to serve every day.

“I love to work and get my hands dirty,” said Hall. “When I get to see the positive outcome of our hard work, it really makes it all worth it at the end of the day.”
