Marines with Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Nashville unveil a mural at the Douglas Corner Café in Nashville, Tenn., September 10, 2016, as part of Marine Week.
A total of 150 hours, from inception to painting, were spent in order to complete the mural. The 12x25 foot mural displayed Nashville’s musical history as well as Marine Corps history and musical capabilities. It symbolizes the cooperation among the Marine Corps and the citizens of Nashville.
“It is nice when the Corps comes in and is able to partner with the community to provide something that means a lot to this area,” said Colby Sledge District 17 Counselman. “Because of the arts district and the artists presence, it only increases and improves the fabric of our community.”
The mural also gave Marines the opportunity to display their artistic talent while is Nashville.
“I feel it’s a very proud moment to design something for and with the Marine Corps,” said Lance Cpl. Christopher Varnell a Combat Camera videographer at Headquarters Marine Corps at the Pentagon. “This allows us to give back to the community and give a little insight to the public of what else the Marine Corps is capable of.”
