The Defense Information Systems Agency Global Operations Command officially opened its $100 million facility during a ribbon cutting ceremony Aug. 11.

“Today we celebrate a new facility, an expansion of this wonderful Air Force base,” said Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner. “This is one of the most important institutions in our protection of America’s freedom anywhere in the world. Today is an example of what happens when all levels of governments come together. Together, we have built a centralized facility that will create jobs to grow the area economy while investing in our infrastructure to keep our country safe.”

The 164,000 sq. ft. DISA Global complex houses a premier cyber-protection division built to execute global mission support and emergency response coordination. The facility boasts a Gold Leeds Certification for energy efficiency while remaining earthquake-proof and capable of withstanding the force of an F-3 tornado.

Army Lt. Gen. Alan Lynn, DISA Global director, said, “This state of the art facility is a reflection of our commitment to our employees, our mission and the cyber defense of our mission. This building, our global operations center, will be the lynchpin to building and defending DoD networks.”

Lynn also thanked the former DISA directors for their planning and vision over the past 10 years, which he said “made this project a reality. From it we build, secure and defend the Department of Defense information networks, one of the largest, most complex networks in the world.”

These networks support a range of military operations, from supporting forward deployed warfighters, to strategic missions such as nuclear command and control.

“DISA Global’s contributions to the cyber fight are unequaled,” he added. “The men and women of DISA Global are crucial to ensuring our nation’s warfighters have effective IT support and communications networks that are available, trusted and operational at all times. Our nation can rest easy knowing that DISA Global is at work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
