ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. – In a collaborative effort, the Ellsworth AFB Dorm Council, Active Airmen’s Council, and Chapel held a Summer Bash at Ellsworth AFB, July 29, 2016.

The event welcomed junior enlisted Airmen and their families to enjoy activities such as volleyball tournaments, party inflatables, slip-n-slides, free food and bean bag toss.

“The intensity in which we engage the current wartime mission must be equally matched by the intensity we take care of our Airmen,” said Chap. (Capt.) Benjamin Quintanilla, a chaplain assigned to the 28th Bomb Wing. “This is a way we can show an intense level of love, care and appreciation for our Airmen for everything they do.”

Quintanilla expressed the focus of this event was to not only get Airmen out of their dorms, but to allow newer Airmen with families to enjoy something fun with no costs.

“We hope the Airmen get the opportunity to spend some time with their family and bring their kids out,” Quintanilla said. “We want good healthy relationships with dorm Airmen that are here, have some food, jump in the jumping castles and have some fun. It allows us to care for them because they care for everyone else all the time while accomplishing the mission.”

Being junior enlisted herself, Senior Airman Arielle, assigned to the 89th Attack Squadron, can relate to other junior enlistees.

“We have all been to a new base where we don't really know anyone and may have a difficult time finding friends that enjoy the same hobbies as us,” Arielle said. “This is a way for Airmen to get to know each other, get out, and develop camaraderie [amongst each other].”

Approximately 200 Airmen and their families attended the event and were able to have free hamburgers and hot dogs provided by the First Sergeants Council.

“The Summer Bash was entertaining,” said Airman 1st Class Anthony Greenwell, a commander support staff technician assigned to the 28th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. “The games were exciting and I will be looking forward to next year’s [event].”
