Air Force Reserve Command placed 13, 512th Airlift Wing members on the 2016 Enlisted Key Personnel List.
“The KPL is a list of identified future potential leaders,” said Senior Master Sgt. David Jackson, 512th Force Support Squadron chief of force development who made the list. “Being on the list potentially opens doors when career opportunities arise.”
The 512th AW has a much more robust representation this year in comparison to the four who made the list in 2015.
“To get on the KPL, you have to complete what is called the Reserve Enlisted Development Plan, located at the virtual Personnel Center,” said Jackson. “Your R-EDP is like an elevator speech. You’re telling the board a quick snippet of who you are and what you want to do.”
The reserve enlisted development plan is an electronic form filled out by applicants answering questions about desired assignments, education and work background, volunteerism and goals. It also includes coordination comments from senior leadership.
Of the 512th AW applicants, 61 percent of the senior master sergeants and 50 percent of the chief master sergeants who submitted packages made the KPL.
One of them is Senior Master Sgt. Anthony Harris, the assistant chief of communications operations in the 512th Mission Support Group. He attributes making the list to doing his job well, taking care of this people, meeting the education requirements, seeking mentorship, and staying innovative as factors for making the KPL. “I haven’t done anything magical. I have just done my job but it is nice to be recognized,” he said.
Along with being recognized as a subject matter expert and leader, there are other benefits to submitting a package to be considered for the KPL.
”It’s an opportunity to have senior enlisted leaders look at your records, accomplishments and goals,” said Senior Master Sgt. Peter Kwasnjuk, a 512th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron first sergeant, also on the KPL. “It is an opportunity for them to give you guidance and point you in the right direction if you are looking to promote or move up.”
Regardless of whether an applicant makes the KPL or not, the applicant receives vectors from the board. A vector is a recommendation on how to strengthen one’s package.
Because the KPL for senior master sergeants and chief master sergeants comes out annually, this is an opportunity to get annual feedback from senior leadership. This year’s senior master sergeants and chief master sergeants from the 512th who made the list are:
