The SAC is an independent and multinational program providing assured access to strategic airlift capability for its 12 member nations, which includes NATO members, Hungary (host nation), Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, and the United States as well as NATO PfP nations, Finland and Sweden.
The HAW is the operational unit of the SAC program. Based in Pápa Air Base, the HAW operates three C-17 cargo jets for operations that can include support to EU/NATO/UN or national military, peacekeeping and humanitarian relief operations wherever and whenever needed by the SAC member nations.
DV Day was attended by Dr. István Simicskó, Defence Minister, Hungary, Colleen Bell, United States Ambassador to Hungary, members of the Hungarian Defense Forces and the Colorado Air National Guard. The COANG has been deployed to Hungary since July 15, training with NATO partners, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Czech Republic in what Bell called “the largest and most complicated air integration mission in the region since the end of the Balkan operations."
