The reviewing officer for the ceremony, Brig. Gen. Edwin J. Deedrick, Deputy Commanding General of 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne), stressed how he believed that the Army got it right by selecting both Liller and Beaurpere to command 1st SFG (A) having knowing them since being a Maj. And Capt. respectively.
Deedrick also spoke of the leadership Liller provided during his time as the group commander.
“It really is a true honor for me to be here and participate in this ceremony and recognize the tremendous leadership of Col. Liller and welcome Col. Beaurpere to the group,” said Deedrick. “As the events around the world remind us of the nature of the fight that we are waging, leadership has never been more important.”
“The Group has accomplished so much over the last two years; Iraq, Afghanistan, the first Special Forces rotational company in Korea and partner SOF training all around the Pacific,” said Liller. “Simply put, it has been my pleasure to be a part of and support all of our missions in a effort to advance our Nation’s goals and objectives.”
Liller went on to say, “I am humbled every day being around such warriors, such professionals, such amazing people.”
“The 1st Group family is strong and now it’s yours to enjoy and make even better,” Liller said as he spoke to Beaurpere. “The Group’s Soldiers, Non-Commissioned Officers, Officers and families will support you beyond expectations and will make you proud every single day.”
“At the end of the day, there is simply no greater honor bestowed upon an officer in the United States Army, than the command of Soldiers,” said Beaurpere. “This opportunity is truly the culmination of a career blessed by the commitment and dedicated service of countless Soldiers, outstanding senior NCO advisors, and multiple senior officer mentors.”
Beaurpere arrives with a wealth of experience having served in multiple positions in 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and as the deputy commander for Special Operations Joint Task Force – Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
“To the Soldiers of 1st Special Forces group, I stand in admiration of your many accomplishments and especially your sacrifices to keep this nation safe,” said Beaurpere. “My pledge to you is to always care for our people, maintain the highest level of training and equipment readiness, and build common purpose under the banner of quiet professionalism.”
