REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. – Over the past several months, CBRNE Analytical and Remediation Activity (CARA) teams have been preparing for an intrusive investigation mission for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) in support of the NASA at Redstone Arsenal (RSA), Alabama.
Teams have been collaboratively working with CB&I (Chicago Bridge & Iron Company originally, but now an environmental and infrastructure service provider) General Contractors training, running multiple scenarios, testing equipment and engaging in chemical warfare material (CWM) related activities in preparation for remediation efforts of the Inactive Old Bone Yard Disposal Site.
RSA teams shifted gears at the beginning of the year from day-time operations, to night operations. Many hours have been spent in meetings, preparing, testing, training and evaluating for this undertaking. During the week of May 22-28, 2016, the final evaluation was successfully completed.
Mr. John Robbins & Mr. Mark Hammond, both section chiefs at CARA Remediation Response-West in Pine Bluff Arsenal, Arkansas, collectively formed teams, attended numerous meetings between CARA, COE, NASA, and CB&I to ensure the remediation effort launched with-out serious hiccups. All part of the preparation, which included equipment set-up, CWM scenario drills, mobilizing, team and support operations, which finally came to fruition on June 6.
Teams worked side-by-side with CB&I to ensure the customer received services as promised. This required numerous pieces of equipment and personnel to be brought in as part of this operation. Long hours, time spent away from families and friends for our team members.
