FORT STEWART, Ga. – Soldiers with 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division participated in Riceboro’s 18th Annual Back to School Rally at Briar Bay Park in Riceboro, Ga., July 9.

“The purpose of the back to school rally is to get the children prepared and motivated to be successful in the upcoming school year.” said Lavonia LeCounte, founder and executive director of the event. “Each year the rally provides food, school supplies, education and fun free of charge to the [Liberty County residents].”

Representatives from more than 30 organizations provided the school supplies and activities such as water slides, hayrides and pony rides.

Lt. Col. Joshua LaMotte, commander of 703rd BSB, was in attendance with his family and was one of the guest speakers.
“I ask of you right now to take the pledge to be devoted to your character, competence and commitment and I'm not just talking to the children,” LaMotte said. “The teachers, institutions and community shape the environment. However, it is up to what you kids and parents do with it.”

During the event, Soldiers provided a color guard detail and static display featuring military vehicles.

“Today we have brought with us one of our humvees and some of our equipment,” said 1st Lt. Brittany Kretz, officer in charge of the event with 703rd BSB. “It has been really nice to be a part of an event where so many different organizations have come together in support of one positive cause.”

“The children are always excited to interact with the Soldiers and the vehicles they bring as part of the display they have prepared,” LeCounte said.

The event was successful according to some of those in attendance and the Soldiers presence was appreciated.

“Today has been an amazing time as always. This is our third time attending. We have come every year since moving here,” said Jasmine Moore, a Liberty County resident and mother of two. “It is always great to see the community come out and see all the smiles on everyone's faces.”

“The 3rd Infantry Division has always been a great support to the event over the years,” LeCounte said. “The Soldiers have always come and help us carry out this event. It has been a great partnership to be a part of.”
