On Saturday, July 9, 2016, the Delaware National Guard held a change of command ceremony for two leaders with a time honored passing of the unit colors. Brig. Gen. Michael Berry assumed the responsibilities as land component commander from Brig. Gen. James Begley, Assistant Adjutant General. Begley was selected as the director, Joint Staff J2/J6-Chief Information Officer at the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C. Each unit colors from Joint Force Headquarters Brigade, 261st TTSB and 72nd Troop Command were all present to show their support.
As land component commander, Berry assumes the command and control responsibilities for the Delaware Army National Guard. In times of need Berry will serve as the Joint Task Commander for state emergencies and will also serve as the Dual State Commander should Title 10 forces be requested to support the state of Delaware.
“I fully realize the extremely high level of professionalism our Delaware Army National Guard forces operate on a daily basis. My job is to ensure our Soldiers are provided with the training, equipment, force structure and mission guidance required in maintaining the high op [operations] tempo they have experienced over the last fifteen years,” stated Berry.
