3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii — The 3rd Brigade Combat Team, “Broncos,” 25th Infantry Division, welcomed Col. Robert M. Ryan as the new brigade commander and said farewell to outgoing commander Col. Scott W. Kelly during a change of command on Weyand Field, here, June 24.

Ryan has held various command and staff positions in Ranger Regiment, to include being the commander of the Regimental Special Troops Battalion, 75th Ranger Regt., and joint task force commander in Afghanistan simultaneously.

In his first address to the brigade, Ryan expressed his gratitude and honor in leading the Broncos Soldiers.

“Thank you to the members of the 25th ID in attendance and those from the greater Hawaii community who are here to honor this great brigade and our Soldiers,” Ryan said.

Outgoing leader Kelly commanded the Bronco Brigade for two years as the 3rd BCT Soldiers deployed on numerous joint training exercises throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

“To the Soldiers of the 3rd Brigade,” Kelly said. “I am deeply honored to have gotten the opportunity to serve you.”

“I thank you and your families for your service and the sacrifice that you make every day,” he continued. “Our profession is demanding and not for the faint of heart. We are the warrior class of our society and you must live up to that calling. Remember that little things matter and failure is unimaginable, so improve yourself and your unit every day; the nation relies upon you.”

He thanked the battalion commanders served with him the past two years.

“You all are the best collection of lieutenant colonels I have ever been around,” he said. “The excellence with which you all commanded your formations made my job easy.”

Ryan will prepare his organization for future exercises with Singapore and Japan in the coming months while balancing efforts in Kentucky and Australia.
