A transfer of authority represents a formal transfer of power and responsibility form one unit to another.

During the ceremony, Magee and Williamson uncased their unit’s colors as Col. Miles Brown, commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Larry Orvis, senior enlisted advisor, 2nd ABCT, 1st Infantry Division, cased their unit’s colors. Maj. Gen. William B. Hickman, deputy commanding general - operations, USARCENT was the reviewing officer for the ceremony.

“I want to thank Col. Brown and Command Sgt. Maj. Orvis for their leadership over the last nine months serving in the ARCENT area of operations” Hickman said. “I also want to welcome Col. Magee and Command Sgt. Maj. Williamson as they take the mantle of this mission.”

Soldiers of the Bulldog brigade have conducted extensive training over the past two years in preparation for this deployment; from training and building long-lasting partnered relationships while conducting numerous missions in Africa as part of the regionally aligned forces mission to conducting the first Decisive Action Rotation in several years at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, said Col. Barry Daniels former commander of the 3rd ABCT, 1st AD.

The Brigade is established and prepared to conduct theater security cooperation operations, partnership missions, and emergency missions.

“When you put an armored brigade combat team on the ground you know you have seized the terrain and you’re not leaving until mission accomplishment, Hickman said.”

The transfer of authority signifies the brigade’s readiness to assume their mission from the previous unit.

“We will continue on the path the “Daggers” blazed, forging our trail in sweat, blood and iron, Magee said.” Here we are and here we stand, serving on the frontiers of freedom.”

In closing the ceremony, Magee concluded his speech with the accolade, “Third always first! Iron Soldiers! Bulldogs!
