Wounded Warrior Battalion - West Welcomes New Commander

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, CA, UNITED STATES

    07.01.2016

    Story by Cpl. Asia Sorenson

    Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton

Lt. Col. Brian M. Dwyer relinquished command of Wounded Warrior Battalion - West to Lt. Col. Stephen Mount during a change of command ceremony on Camp Pendleton, June 30, 2016.

During the ceremony, Dwyer was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal, fourth award, for outstanding meritorious while serving Commanding Officer of Wounded Warrior Battalion – West from July 2014 to June 2016.

The citation reads, “During his tenure, Lt. Col. Dwyer distinguished himself as an exceptionally effective leader and advocate in support of wounded, ill and injured Marines, Sailors and their families. The command provided support for Marines hospitalized at medical treatment facilities and Veterans’ Affairs polytrauma centers from the Western United States through Hawaii and Okinawa.”

Dwyer passed command of the battalion to Mount with the ceremonial passing of the unit’s colors. The passing of the colors represents the passing of the command from one officer to the next.

“Two years ago, when I stepped foot here and took command, I didn’t really understand what Wounded Warrior Battalion did,” said Dwyer. “In getting out and talking to the Marines and the commands, it’s about understanding what we do. It’s about us keeping faith with our Marines and our Sailors and their families so we can take care of them.”

Dwyer will be reporting next to Headquarters United States Central Command.
