When you’re the best around you don’t need to say it, you just play it. That is exactly what Eugeniy Belski did when he was asked to play with the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Band Ambassadors Jazz Ensemble at an open air concert here, June 19.
Belski is a trombone player at the Belarusian State Academy of Music and has been playing for nine years.
“I was listening to them before I was to play and it was mind-blowing. It was an awesome honor to have been able to perform with the USAFE band and to even get to do a solo was great,” Belski said. “I’ve only be playing nine years and to hear them and then play with them it gives me a great urge to practice more and to become great like them, or even better.”
The USAFE Band traveled to Belarus to commemorate the World War II alliance and shared sacrifices. Music performances such as these reflect shared memories and sacrifices while contributing to overall community relationships for a better future.
The USAFE band met Belski before the concert and decided he should join them on stage to play a song or two. The bandsmen said they didn’t need to hear him play because, as musicians, it is easy to tell how a person carries oneself if they can play or not.
The USAFE band played an hour-long set for a couple hundred people.
“It’s a great feeling of emotions to have the jazz band playing for us. I hope they will return many times and play more for us again,” said Liza Pehanava, a resident of Mogilev.
The band wrapped up there set by dancing with members of the audience and even had some play along with them. Proving that music is a form of communication that helps bridge cultures and builds long lasting friendships.
