    3rd Combat Aviation Brigade

HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – The troopers of 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade held a change of command ceremony on Hunter Army Airfield June 20.

The Lighthorse squadron warmly welcomed Lt. Col. Phillip Lamb as the new commanding officer and bid farewell to Lt. Col. John Broam.

The 3rd CAB commander, Col. Jeffrey Becker spoke of leadership that Broam has provided over the last two years.

“The 3rd Squadron, 17th Cav. Reg. is the most lethal, competent air cavalry squadron in the world. A unit that is molded exactly after the commander John Broam,” Becker said. “On top of being the epitome of leading by example in everything he does, Broam possesses a deep and most genuine concern for his Soldiers and their families. Lamb is the exact leader to take command of the Lighthorse Squadron.”

Broam will be leaving the Falcon Brigade to continue his service at the Army National Training Center in California. He spoke about the honor of being the squadron commander.

“It has been the honor of my 24 year career to be the squadron commander,” Broam said. “This unit’s awe-inspiring dedication and support to each other ensured our success and will continue to do so. There was truly no other unit our family would rather serve with. ”

Lamb is no stranger to the 3rd CAB. He deployed with the former 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment.

“I stand here today, a fortunate human being for a multitude of reasons,” Lamb said. “I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to join this team of amazing troopers who have been constantly either executing national defense, or readying themselves for the next mission.”
