FORT BUCHANAN, PUERTO RICO - Soldiers from the 1st Mission Support Command (MSC), 448th Engineer Battalion participated in the Disaster Site Worker Outreach in support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) operations from 6 to 10 June 2016 at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Disaster Site Worker Outreach Training Program is for Disaster Site Workers who provide skilled support services, (e.g. demolition, debris removal, or heavy equipment) or site clean-up services in response to natural and man-made disasters. The pre-incident training is essential for ensuring disaster worker safety and health are priority when in support of any DSCA operations in any part of Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands (USVI).

1st Mission Support Command Emergency Management Coordinator in conjunction with the Safety, G 3/5/7 and the Force Development Offices conducted this training in support of DSCA Operations in order to save lives, prevent human suffering and mitigate greater property damage. This will enhance our capabilities to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in any part of Continental US, Puerto Rico and USVI.

Mr. Carlos Alvarado, 1st MSC Safety & Occupational Health Specialist, was designated as the principal trainer for this course together with personnel from the 22nd WMD-CST (Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team) Puerto Rico National Guard. Additional three training sessions will be conducted during the last quarter of fiscal year 2016.
