Parkview Field and the TinCaps have hosted Military Appreciation Night, for both active and veteran military families, for eight consecutive years. The 122nd Blacksnakes have been actively involved for all eight years.
“This is awesome,” said Kodie Tidwell, an infielder for the TinCaps from Monroe, Louisiana. “We always get excited for stuff like this. It’s fun, especially when we can play a game and support our troops at the same time.”
Tidwell, along with Peter Van Gansen (Short Stop), Ty France (Third Baseman), Nick Vilter (Third Baseman) and AJ Kennedy (Catcher), got up-close and personal with the Blacksnake’s A-10 Thunderbolt II “Warthog” fighter jet, learned about weapons and munitions, and took part in a demonstration of the base’s A-10 flight simulator.
The TinCaps will be wearing commemorative flight suit themed jerseys for tonight’s game. The jerseys will also be worn on the Fourth of July, and will be auctioned off that day, with proceeds going to support Honor Flight Northeast Indiana.
