ABERDEEN PROVONG GROUND, Md. – The 110th CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) Battalion, part of the 48th CBRN Brigade, will increase its capabilities by adding a CBRN company to its organization at Joint Base Lewis-Mchord (North Fort), Washington on June 16.
‎"The unit's reactivation demonstrates our Army's commitment to attacking the menace of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards presented to the homeland, to our deployed forces and to our allies and international partners," Col. Christopher J. Cox, 48th CBRN Brigade Commander.
Earlier this year, the 48th CBRN Brigade also added the 10th Hazard Response Company at Fort Carson, Colo. with a core mission to provide CBRN reconnaissance, surveillance and decontamination support to assigned areas of operations during unified land operations.
This new unit, the 45th CBRN Company, will have close to 100 Soldiers, and its mission, similar to its counterpart in Fort Carson, will be react to CBRN threats in the homeland and abroad.
The 45th CBRNE Company was constituted March 12 in the Army as Company B, 81st Chemical Battalion and later activated on April 25, 1942 at Fort D.A. Russel, Texas.
The unit does have ties to Joint Base Lewis Mchord, Washington since it was inactivated on Dec. 19, 1972 at Fort Lewis, Washington‎.
The company was last assigned to Fort Polk, Louisiana from Sept. 1, 1983 to Dec.15, 1992 as part of the 5th Infantry Division.
The 45th CBRN Company belongs to the 48th CBRN Brigade and its parent organization is the 20th CBRNE Command. 20th CBRNE Command is the Department of Defense's only formation with specialized CBRN and Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) capabilities and expertise to operate effectively across the full spectrum of CBRNE hazards.
