BAGRAM AIRFIELD, AFGHANISTAN (June 13, 2016) –U.S. Army Col. Prescott R. Farris, Task Force Odin Commander, officiated the ceremony in which Task Force Sentinels, the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, assumed mission authority from Task Force Longhorn, the 303rd Military Intelligence Battalion.
“The 303rd Soldiers have done an incredible job of supporting the aerial exploitation mission,” said Col. Ferris, as he detailed a few of the accomplishments of the 303rd.
U.S. Army Lt. Col. Anthony J. Covert and Sgt. Maj. Gregory A. Comacho Vera, 303rd MI Battalion commander and command sergeant major, cased the unit colors signifying the end of the Task Force Longhorn mission here in Afghanistan.
The battalion will soon redeploy to its home station at Fort Hood, Texas.
U.S. Army Lt. Col. Carrie L. Barhorst and Command Sgt. Maj. Brett M. Lawson, 502nd commander and command sergeant major, unfurled their unit colors signifying the assumption of mission authority in Afghanistan as Task Force Sentinel.
The 502nd MI Battalion recently arrived at Bagram from their home station at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., for a nine month tour.
TF ODIN (observe, detect, identify and neutralize) is a brigade-sized element made up of three battalions. TF Sentinel is now one of these battalions, with military and civilians in a joint service organization comprised of several subordinate units, that include aerial intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance task forces, a forward collection battalion, and specialized unit task forces in biometrics, tactical biometrics collection, and a collection material exploitation laboratory.
