KABUL, Afghanistan -- The seventh Oversight Coordination Body meeting was held here on Monday at the Ministry of Defense’s Chai House. This is the final OCB meeting before the Warsaw Summit early next month in Poland, where partner countries will convene to recommit their support and pledge financial resources to the security of Afghanistan.

Deputy Chief of Staff - Security Assistance/Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan commanding general Maj. Gen. Gordon “Skip” B. Davis, Jr. attended and sat on the panel with Minister of Interior Taj Mohammad Jahid, General Khaliq, First Deputy Minister of Defense, Minister of Finance Eklil Hakimi, National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Director General Zia Hallimi from the Ministry of Finance, Italian Ambassador to Afghanistan Roberto Cantone and European Union Ambassador to Kabul Franz-Michael Mellbin. Representatives from more than 20 countries were also in attendance.

The OCB was formed from the 2012 Chicago Agreement, which renewed NATO’s firm commitment to a sovereign, secure and democratic Afghanistan. The OCB provides broad oversight and guidance to the four main funding streams to improve security in Afghanistan: Law and Order Trust Fund, NATO Afghan National Army Trust Fund, Bilateral funding (ASFF) and GIRoA funding.

The OCB is a venue for the international community to hear directly from senior Afghan government leadership, then return to their home countries with recommendations. These meetings also allow all partners to voice their concerns before an international audience.

Senior Afghan officials use the OCB meetings as an opportunity to update the international community on the progress of the Afghan National Defense Security Forces and progresses and challenges of corruption reform, improving security, financial sustainability, good governance and gender participation.

DCOS SA/CSTC-A trains, advises, and assists within the Afghan Security Institutions to develop resource management capability, IG/TAO and Rule of Law capability, and provide resources in accordance with the Afghan National Defense Security Forces Plan of Record. The goal is to develop sustainable ANDSF capacity and capabilities in support of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
