The United States Air Force Band continued their summer concert series on June 7 with a performance on the steps of the Capitol Building in Washington.
The Summer Concert Series began Memorial Day weekend and runs through Sept. 2. The series features performances on Fridays at the Air Force Memorial, Saturdays at the National Harbor, Tuesdays at the U.S. Capitol and throughout the National Capital Region.
“Being here at the U.S. Capitol is an incredible event,” said Air Force Maj. David A. Alpar, officer in charge of the Air Force Strings and Ceremonial Brass. “It’s a really spectacular place to play. We’re at the very seat of our government, and to be able to play a concert here is an extraordinary experience. I don’t think you’re ever going to get that anywhere else.”
This was Alpar’s final concert with the Ceremonial Brass before heading to Texas to take over the Band of the West.
Reminiscing on the uniqueness of the opportunities available with the band, Alpar described what makes the performances in DC so incredible.
“The summer series is always a wonderful event,” said Alpar. “You see families of all ages coming out to the concerts - whether it’s here at the Capitol steps or at the National Harbor or Air Force Memorial. Being able to perform for DC residents and the tourists that are here is really a special event.”
