ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The headquarters of the 85th Support Command was filled with voices as the command staff came together, during their battle assembly weekend, to celebrate the Army’s 241st birthday and sing the Army song, June 4, 2016.
“It means a lot that I could help out and as (the most junior enlisted) I was recognized,” explained Pvt. Erika Vahst, Human Resources Specialist, 85th Support Command who assisted cutting the cake.
“It means a lot that we celebrate (the Army Birthday) and don’t just move on from a special day,” said Vahst. “It’s good that we celebrate where the Army started from and we remember the past.”
The ceremony included a cake cutting by the senior enlisted advisor Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin Greene, Command Sergeant Major, 85th Support Command, and Vahst. The ceremony also included a few words by Greene.
“I find it a point of pride that I get to represent all of the enlisted soldiers in my command,” said Greene. “It’s an honor to get to be your representative and be afforded the opportunity to lead a celebration like the Army birthday.”
The command concluded the ceremony with everyone in attendance singing the Army song, eating cake, and many acknowledging the importance of celebrating and remembering the Army’s history. The Army’s 241st birthday falls on June 14, 2016.
“From Valley Forge, to Custer’s ranks, San Juan Hill and, Patton’s tanks, the Army goes rolling along.”
